No The End

Tutorial

From install to story time in just a few minutes

No The End is designed to disappear once a book is open. Here's everything you need to know.

  1. 1. Install the app

Grab No The End from Google Play onto the tablet you read from. An iOS version is on the way. It's a small download and works fully offline.

  2. 2. Add your own book

No The End opens with a sample book already loaded, so you can try the gestures right away. To use your own PDF, triple-tap the bottom-right corner of the screen. It's a hidden gesture on purpose, so curious little fingers can't find it. Pick your file once, and No The End remembers it the next time you open the app.

  3. 3. Turn pages with hidden corner gestures

There are no visible arrows or buttons to give it away. Press and hold the top-left or bottom-left corner to go back a page, or the top-right or bottom-right corner to go forward. Triple-tap the top-left corner to jump straight to page one, or the top-right corner to jump to the last page.

  4. 4. Lock out little fingers

Tap Start Reading and No The End locks the tablet to itself using your device's own built-in lock-down feature. There's no separate lock icon to find.

On Android (this app), tapping Start Reading turns on Android's Screen Pinning automatically: it hides the system bars and blocks Home, Recents, and switching apps until you choose to leave. The first time, Android may ask you to turn Screen Pinning on in Settings. No The End walks you there and back. When you're done reading, press and hold the Back and Recents buttons together until you see "Screen unpinned."

On iOS (coming soon), the iOS app will use Apple's Guided Access instead, since iPhones and iPads don't have an Android-style pinning gesture. You'll turn Guided Access on once in Settings > Accessibility, then triple-click the side or Home button to lock the tablet to No The End, and triple-click again with your passcode or Face ID to unlock it.

  5. 5. Enjoy the moment

Dim the lights, snuggle in, and read. No ads, no recommendations, no algorithm, just your story.

  6. Bonus: the magnifying glass

Triple-tap the bottom-left corner to open or close a draggable magnifier to zoom in on details on the page. Drag it to move, double-tap to reveal a resize handle, and pinch to zoom in or out.

Pro tip: Set your tablet to Do Not Disturb and turn the brightness down before you open a book. No The End's gestures already ignore everyday (and tiny) taps and swipes. This just clears away the last distractions.
