No The End

Our Story

Building a "dumb" app for smart devices

I used to spend my days working in the high-end visual effects industry. My professional life revolved around incredibly complex digital pipelines, custom software tools, and screens that are fundamentally designed to command your full attention. I was a living, breathing representation of screen time.

But when it came to bedtime with my kid, I found myself fighting against all of that technology.

I just wanted to read a simple storybook PDF on my tablet. Instead, I was battling tiny little fingers accidentally swiping the book closed, pop-up notifications, and an interface that felt entirely over-engineered for a quiet moment. It was frustrating for my child, and it was ruining the calm wind-down routine we were trying to build.

I have always loved making things from scratch and meticulously dialing in the details: whether that means making my own furniture in the wood shop, or spending a weekend perfectly scaling a recipe for a batch of bagels. I realized I could apply that same exactness to this problem. I didn't want an app that did more. I needed an app that did less.

Right now, No The End is a completely solo venture. I built it to solve my own problem at bedtime, stripping away every unnecessary, bloated, or distracting feature until all that was left was the story.

Who this is for

I built this first for myself and my daughter, and now for parents and caregivers who want to bring their own books to the table without handing over their child's attention to an algorithm. It is for families who need their expensive, high-tech tablet to just act like a piece of paper for 20 minutes before sleep. Or 30 minutes. Or an hour. There doesn’t have to be a The End.

There are no ads, no telemetry, and no tracking scripts. Just one more story, one more chapter, and one more moment together.
